AKASOL OPENS GIGAFACTORY 1: EUROPE’S LARGEST FACTORY FOR COMMERCIAL-VEHICLE BATTERY SYSTEMS

AKASOL AG held a ceremony with more than 160 guests in attendance to open its Gigafactory 1, Europe’s largest factory for commercial-vehicle battery systems. The state-of-the-art factory has a production capacity of up to 1 GWh in the first phase of its expansion and will gradually expand to 2.5 GWh by late 2022. In addition to Tarek Al-Wazir, Hessian Minister of Economics, Energy, Transport and Housing, numerous representatives from politics and business were in attendance at the opening ceremony. Peter Altmaier, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy, congratulated AKASOL in a personal video message.

FURTHER EXPANSION IN THE AREA OF BUSES: AKASOL CONCLUDES LONG-TERM FRAMEWORK AGREEMENT WITH A BELGIAN BUS MANUFACTURER

AKASOL AG has signed a strategically important framework agreement with a major bus and commercial vehicle manufacturer from Belgium with a total volume in the mid-double-digit million euro range. The Company will supply the second and third generation of its high-energy battery systems for the customer’s new all-electric city bus starting in 2021 until 2026 and thus expand its customer portfolio.

AUTOMATED BATTERY RECYCLING PROCESS

AKASOL PARTNERS WITH FRAUNHOFER RESEARCH INSTITUTION is partnering with the Fraunhofer Research Institution for Materials Recycling and Resource Strategies IWKS on a new funding project: As part of their joint project, “Bætter Recycle – Battery recycling and disassembly for eMobility and optimization through recycling-friendly design,” the two partners are working to develop automated recycling processes for the eMobility industry.
