Resilient resistors keep wind turbines turning

The REO BW151 resistor, a braking resistor for renewable applications, has gone through rigorous testing so it can be used in the pitch control systems (PCSs) for wind turbines across the UK. The resistors have been tested to meet European Standards, EN 60068-2-6 and EN 600068-2-27, to ensure reliability and degradation-free performance for both onshore and offshore wind turbines.

Keeping wind turbines cool

How edge winding will boost cooling efficiency of wind turbines. As wind turbines get bigger and their generating capacity increases, they also generate more heat. Components including the frequency converter, generator and transformer are reaching the limits of traditional air-to-air and liquid-to-air cooling systems.

Keeping clean energy clean

Clean energy is on the radar, but it’s not enough to use green energy from renewable sources, it’s also vital that the power conversion is electrically efficient. Here, Steve Hughes, managing director of power quality specialist REO UK, explains how parts such as braking resistors and power filters can make clean energy truly clean.
