SIC Marking

SIC Marking marks parts made by additive manufacturing

Metal additive manufacturing is a 3D printing technology that allows to create parts by adding material set by a CAD program. Metallic material is successively layered to create a complete assembly or to add functionalities to an existing part. Creating a part from scratch is made possible using laser or electron beam systems. Unlike conventional machining processes, this method consists in adding metal and thus saving material.

Metal additive manufacturing offers nowadays new perspectives for the production of very small components or parts with complex geometric shapes for mass production or prototyping. The materials mainly used are chromium cobalt (medical or dental prostheses), ceramics (defense), aluminum or titanium (aerospace).

Among the various sectors concerned by this technological progress, aerospace, is the one that invests the most in the development of additive manufacturing. This process makes it possible to produce small series of technically complex components or parts with economic benefits (shortened development time, optimized quantity of raw material) and significant weight loss.

Of course, the industry standards (DT 05-89, JES 131, XP Pr EN9132, ATA SPEC 200) impose traceability on aircraft components with high-quality markings. Thales has invested in 3D printing and created a competence center in Morocco. The parts developed with additive manufacturing are mainly made of aluminum and titanium. Thales Morocco ensures traceability by marking datamatrix codes on these components using SIC Marking’s laser workstations.

This 20 or 50W fiber laser is incorporated into an XL-Box laser marking station which is:
- Easy to use with a 570x564 mm working area
- Ergonomic with an automatic and wide opening on 3 sides
- Economical thanks to its robust design and reduced maintenance.

The international company SIC Marking also develops, manufactures and offers scribing and dot peen marking systems that can be integrated into production lines, on workbenches or for mobile uses.

SIC Marking wishes to support and invest in 3D printing companies by offering marking solutions recognized throughout the world.
