Avalue Launches ECM-ASL3 Industrial 3.5″ SBC

Avalue Technology Inc. has introduced the ECM-ASL3, an industrial-grade 3.5-inch single-board computer designed to support edge computing workloads in manufacturing, automation, medical, and vehicle-mounted systems. The platform combines low-power x86 processing with extended environmental tolerance, long lifecycle support, and flexible I/O expansion.

Addressing Industrial Edge Computing Requirements
Industrial and embedded systems increasingly require compact computing platforms capable of operating reliably under harsh environmental and electrical conditions. Applications such as smart manufacturing, autonomous mobile robots, and medical monitoring depend on continuous operation, deterministic performance, and long product availability cycles.

The ECM-ASL3 is built around Intel® Alder Lake-N and Amston Lake processors, offering a balance between compute performance and power efficiency. The design targets embedded deployments where thermal headroom, power stability, and mechanical robustness are critical to system reliability.

Hardware Architecture and Environmental Specifications
The ECM-ASL3 is specified for an operating temperature range from –40°C to +80°C and supports a wide 9–36 VDC input range, enabling deployment across industrial power environments. The board design prioritises mechanical stability for use in high-vibration or mobile installations such as outdoor equipment and vehicle platforms.

To support system security requirements in distributed edge environments, the board integrates a TPM 2.0 module. Processor-mounted design elements are intended to improve resistance to shock and vibration compared to socketed alternatives.

Expansion, Networking, and Display Capabilities

The platform provides multiple expansion and connectivity options to support heterogeneous industrial systems. Three M.2 interfaces (B Key, E Key, and M Key) allow integration of wireless communication modules, storage devices, or AI accelerators. Networking is supported via three Ethernet ports, including one 2.5GbE and two 1GbE interfaces.

For human-machine interface and visual processing use cases, the ECM-ASL3 supports three display outputs: HDMI, DisplayPort, and LVDS/eDP. This configuration allows simultaneous connection of multiple displays in industrial control panels or medical imaging front ends.

Cross-Generation Processor Support and Lifecycle Strategy
A defining feature of the ECM-ASL3 is its cross-generation processor compatibility. Support for Intel Alder Lake-N, Amston Lake, and future Twin Lake platforms enables system designers to upgrade processing performance without major hardware redesigns. This approach supports longer system reuse cycles and reduces qualification costs.

The board is designed for a seven-year lifecycle, aligning with the requirements of industrial automation, transportation, and medical equipment manufacturers. Avalue provides additional services including BIOS customisation, firmware support, thermal optimisation, and customised I/O configurations to support system-level integration.

Application Scope and Use Cases
The ECM-ASL3 is intended for edge computing scenarios where real-time data processing and system stability are required. Typical applications include automated production line control, edge AI inference for machine vision, autonomous navigation control for AMR and AGV platforms, and traffic or infrastructure monitoring systems.

In medical environments, the board can be used for patient monitoring systems, medical image preprocessing, and diagnostic equipment requiring continuous operation. Its environmental tolerance also supports deployment in agricultural equipment and outdoor industrial installations.

Availability
The ECM-ASL3 industrial 3.5-inch single-board computer is available from Avalue Technology, with long-term support and system integration services offered for industrial and embedded deployments.
