Integrated Motor Diagnostics for Predictive Maintenance
Beckhoff extends Smart System Diagnosis to AM8000–AM8800 servomotors, enabling in-motor vibration, temperature and humidity monitoring for predictive maintenance with TwinCAT Analytics.

Beckhoff has expanded its Smart System Diagnosis (B/SSD) functionality to the AM8000, AM8300, AM8500, AM8700 and AM8800 servomotor series. The optional feature integrates real-time condition monitoring directly into the motor, providing data for predictive maintenance and machine health analysis.
In-Motor Measurement Without Additional Sensors
B/SSD enables measurement of vibration, temperature and humidity within the motor housing. The system is integrated into Beckhoff’s One Cable Technology (OCT) used on AM8000 servomotors, allowing power and feedback signals to be transmitted through a single cable. As a result, no additional external sensors or separate sensor wiring are required.
This integration reduces installation complexity compared with conventional retrofit monitoring systems that rely on external accelerometers and temperature probes.
Vibration Analysis up to ±50 g
The diagnostic function supports vibration measurement in several evaluation modes:
- Root mean square (RMS) values
- Peak value detection
- Statistical analysis using kurtosis
The measurement range extends up to ±50 g, enabling detection of bearing and gearbox damage, imbalance, misalignment, as well as shocks and impact events. By capturing both continuous vibration patterns and transient events, the system supports early identification of mechanical degradation.
Temperature and Humidity Monitoring
In addition to vibration, B/SSD monitors internal motor temperature within a range of –40 to 125 °C and relative humidity from 0 to 100 %. Temperature trends can indicate overload conditions or cooling issues, while humidity monitoring supports detection of condensation risks that may affect insulation and long-term reliability.
Combining these parameters provides a broader statistical basis for assessing overall system health.
Integration with TwinCAT Analytics
All measurement data can be processed using Beckhoff’s TwinCAT Analytics software. Live and historical data can be recorded, visualized and analyzed to identify trends and anomalies. Processed information can be converted into dashboard-ready indicators for machine optimization and maintenance planning.
The integration of B/SSD into the AM8000–AM8800 servomotor families enables continuous condition monitoring at the drive level. By embedding diagnostics directly within the motor and linking it to analytics software, Beckhoff supports predictive maintenance strategies aimed at increasing machine uptime and reducing unplanned downtime in motion control systems.
