Compact speed starter with integrated safety function

With the new Contactron speed starter, Phoenix Contact introduces a compact solution for variable speed control of three-phase motors up to 7.5 kW. The device combines simplified wiring, user-friendly operation, and integrated safety functions, targeting industrial applications with demanding functional safety requirements.

Variable speed control and defined speed levels
Motor speed can be adjusted via an analog input, enabling flexible speed variation according to process requirements. In addition, up to four fixed speed levels can be parameterized, ensuring repeatable and precisely defined operating states.

Parameterizable acceleration and deceleration ramps allow customized start-up and braking behavior, helping to reduce mechanical stress on drive components and optimize process performance.

Integrated safety up to SIL 3/PLe
An integrated Safe Torque Off (STO) function ensures immediate removal of torque by cutting energy supply to the motor. The speed starter complies with safety standards up to SIL 3 in accordance with IEC 61508 and Performance Level e (PLe) under ISO 13849-1, making it suitable for safety-related machine and plant applications.

For motor outputs from 4.0 kW, connection of a braking resistor is предусмотрed to safely dissipate braking energy.

EMC option and system integration
The device is optionally available with an integrated EMC filter to minimize electromagnetic interference and support compliant operation in various industrial environments.

Function blocks are available in the PLCnext Library to facilitate integration into existing automation systems, enabling standardized commissioning and streamlined control architecture integration.
