Gas compression technologies are becoming a key enabler of renewable gas integration and hydrogen infrastructure development in industrial energy systems. In this context, SAFE S.p.A. presented its latest biomethane and hydrogen technologies at EXPOBIOGAZ and EHEC 2026, highlighting developments across the renewable gas value chain.
Technology developments across the renewable gas value chain
SAFE, founded in 1975, develops equipment covering gas production, compression, storage and distribution. Its technology portfolio targets applications within the energy transition, particularly biomethane upgrading plants and hydrogen infrastructure projects.
At EXPOBIOGAZ 2026, held in Lyon, France, from 10–11 March 2026, SAFE presented solutions focused on the biomethane production chain, with emphasis on operational continuity, plant efficiency and modular system configurations.
A key development presented at the exhibition was a new screw compressor designed as a primary compression stage for biomethane upgrading plants. The system is designed to operate under low suction pressure conditions while handling high gas flow rates, supporting continuous operation requirements typical of renewable gas processing plants.
Compression systems supporting biomethane upgrading processes
The new compressor expands SAFE’s equipment range for biomethane upgrading facilities, where compression stages play a role in gas purification and grid injection processes. The system is intended to support flexible plant configuration and integration into modular process designs.
Such developments reflect the growing role of renewable gases within the broader energy infrastructure and their integration into the industrial energy supply chain.
Hydrogen infrastructure focus at EHEC 2026
SAFE also presented hydrogen-related technologies at the European Hydrogen Energy Conference (EHEC 2026), held in Seville, Spain, from 11–13 March 2026, in collaboration with Gas Eco H2 at Stand 52.
The presentation focused on compression, storage and distribution technologies designed for hydrogen infrastructure, including modular system architectures intended for industrial hydrogen use and refuelling infrastructure.

Hydrogen refuelling infrastructure case study in Seville
As part of the exhibition, SAFE and Gas Eco H2 highlighted a hydrogen refuelling project located in the La Isla industrial area in Dos Hermanas, Seville. The project includes hydrogen production and compression technologies combined with a hydrogen refuelling station (HRS) supplied by SAFE already operating on site.
The installation illustrates the integration of compression systems within hydrogen mobility infrastructure, where reliable compression plays a role in ensuring operational continuity and safety in hydrogen distribution.
Through its participation in both events, SAFE demonstrated developments in gas compression technologies supporting renewable gas processing and hydrogen infrastructure deployment across European energy projects.
