Hydropower Project Expands Renewable Capacity in Türkiye

ANDRITZ has been awarded a turnkey contract to deliver electromechanical equipment for the Cizre hydropower plant in Türkiye. The project will add 339 MW of installed capacity, contributing to renewable energy generation and grid reliability.

Large-Scale Hydropower Deployment
The Cizre plant is designed to generate electricity using five Francis turbine-generator units, each rated at 64 MW, along with an additional 19 MW ECO-flow unit. The installation operates at a maximum head of 36 metres and a rated rotational speed of 111 rpm, parameters that define turbine efficiency and energy output.

The combined configuration supports both base-load generation and flexible operation, enabling the plant to respond to variations in electricity demand while maintaining stable output.

Water-to-Wire System Integration
The project follows a “water-to-wire” approach, integrating all key components from hydraulic energy conversion to electrical output. This includes turbine-generator sets, auxiliary systems, and control infrastructure.

Such integrated delivery models reduce interface complexity between mechanical and electrical systems, improving commissioning efficiency and long-term operational reliability. The turbines incorporate advanced runner designs aimed at maximising hydraulic efficiency under site-specific conditions.

Engineering and Implementation Scope
ANDRITZ’s scope covers the full lifecycle of electromechanical system delivery, including engineering, manufacturing, installation, and commissioning. Turnkey execution enables coordinated system integration, ensuring compatibility between components and reducing project risk.

The contract value, in the low three-digit million euro range, reflects the scale of the installation and its role within Türkiye’s expanding renewable energy portfolio.
