Eti Bakir has awarded Metso a €55 million contract to supply core process technology for the expansion of its Mazidagi integrated fertilizer and metal production site in Türkiye. This project represents the first commercial-scale delivery of Metso’s Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) Smelting Furnace technology. Designed to recover additional value from industrial byproducts, the integrated solution will process leach residue from the site, converting it into molten hot metal alongside marketable iron and slag products to support Eti Bakir's vision of a zero-waste industrial complex.
The scope of delivery encompasses basic and equipment engineering, as well as supply and advisory services. Metso will provide an SL/RN Xtra rotary kiln pellet direct reduction process paired with a 30 MVA Metso Outotec® DRI Smelting Furnace and a hot feeding system. This investment builds upon a long-standing partnership between the two companies; Metso has previously supplied beneficiation, calcination, off-gas cleaning, sulfuric acid, and metal recovery leaching plants for the Mazidagi complex in Mardin Province.
