RS Components launches IP67 rated 1.80 mm wire-to-wire connector system from Molex
Compact rugged connectors deliver industry-leading power density
LONDON, UK, 4 October, 2018 - RS Components (RS), the trading brand of Electrocomponents plc (LSE:ECM), a global multi-channel distributor, has introduced the Molex Squba range of 1.80 mm sealed wire-to-wire connectors, designed to fit into small spaces while offering IP67 protection against liquid, dust and dirt. Squba supports currents up to 6.0 A carried over No. 24 to No. 22 AWG wire, delivering more power over such a small wire gauge than other connector systems on the market.Electronics engineers in the consumer, industrial and transport sectors are expected to incorporate ever greater functionality into their designs, making it difficult to squeeze all the required components into the available space. Many applications also experience wet or dusty conditions that can cause unsealed connectors to fail.
With a terminal pitch of just 1.80 mm combined with IP67 protection, the Squba connector system ensures a reliable connection even in space-constrained, harsh-environment applications such as outdoor lighting, HVAC equipment, security systems, robotics, industrial motors and machines, food processing equipment, liquid dispensers, all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), and lighting and under-dash wiring for boats and other marine vessels.
The patent-pending Molex design features a protected, low-profile positive latch that stops wires getting caught during assembly while keeping the overall connector package size small. Seal caps with protective guide channels align terminals to provide additional security against seal puncture during assembly, and also protect against seal damage during handling, shipping, insertion and operation.
The Molex Squba wire-to-wire connector system comprises plug and receptacle housings and crimp terminals that can be assembled in 2- to 10-circuit configurations, including void options for 3-, 5-, 7- and 9-circuit requirements. Clean-body terminals with wraparound insulation crimps are used to help prevent seal punctures. Each female terminal has two contact points and two serrations in the conductor crimp area to enhance electrical and mechanical performance. A primary lock provides 30 N terminal retention force.
Contact resistance is 10 mΩ and insulation resistance is 100 MΩ. Maximum voltage is 125 V, with dielectric withstand tests indicating less than 5 mA leakage current. The operating temperature range is from –40° to +105°C.
The Molex Squba range is shipping now from RS in the EMEA and Asia Pacific regions.
