Westermo devices comply with ATEX, DNV, Industrial IT, UL and CSA specifications
Westermo Data Communications have announced that many of its industrial communications products now comply with international industry specifications. The approvals, which include ATEX, DNV, Industrial IT, UL and CSA, have been applied to a range of Ethernet extenders, switches and media converters. The ATEX and DNV approvals enable the products to be applied in potentially explosive atmospheres and onboard marine vessels. The industrial IT approvals enable seamless integration with ABB products. The UL and CSA approvals enable the products to be used in North America and Canada.
The ATEX compliant products are the Wolverine DDW-120 Ethernet Extender and the RedFox industrial routing switches. The DDW-120 complies with Ex nA IIC T4 Gc, and the RedFox with Ex nA IIC T4 Gc and Ex tc IIIC Dc, making both products suitable for use in potentially explosive atmospheres. The DDW-120 is a high speed Ethernet line extender, capable of extending Ethernet networks over copper cables. The RedFox high performance switches with enhanced routing functionality are designed to build cost effective, secure and reliable networks that would previously have required several different units. Both device types are well established and operating in a range of industrial applications in extreme conditions worldwide.
The Det Norske Veritas (DNV) approved products for marine usage are the SDW-541 and SDW- 532 unmanaged industrial Ethernet switches and the MCW-211 Industrial Ethernet FX/TX media converter. All three devices meet the DNV Standard for Certification 2.4:2006 (covering the requirements in IACS UR E10:2006) that aims to enhance safety at sea and the prevention of marine pollution. With this approval, these Westermo products can support a redundant Ethernet solution running on a fibre optic cable onboard ships, controlling propulsion systems, dynamic positioning, motion controls, alarm systems, engine controls, steering, stabilisers, and electrical systems.
The ABB Industrial IT approved products are the Lynx+ compact layer 3 managed Ethernet switch, RedFox series of switches, Wolverine DDW-225 Industrial Ethernet SHDSL extender and ODW-642 fibre-optic modem. The ABB Industrial IT initiative is a programme of approvals that helps customers integrate ABB and technology partner equipment. The Westermo products have been tested and certified for compliance with Industrial IT standards for information, integration and architecture.
The UL and CSA approved product is the Lynx+ Ethernet switch. The Lynx+ Ethernet switch has met standards for safety as documented by Underwriters Laboratories Inc., (UL). The UL Company, a well-known independent body that performs safety tests on countless products, issued a Certificate of Compliance to the Lynx+, stating that it passed the electrical safety test to meet UL 60950-1 2nd edition Standard for safety, and CSA (Canadian Standards Authority) C22,2 No. 60950-1-07, 2nd edition. Gaining these certificates makes the Lynx+ suitable for applications in both North America and Canada.
