Weidmüller's portfolio of products offers a broad spectrum of innovative and reliable components for installing photovoltaic systems. Designed specifically for use in photovoltaic systems Weidmüller offers two different versions of its 'WM4' plug connector – field and device/enclosure connectors. Operating solar systems demands reliability, safety and first-class performance of all the products – from the modules right down to individual connectors. Low contact resistance, first class workmanship and easy handling are distinguishing features indicating the right choice of connector. And it is exactly these requirements that both versions of the 'WM4' plug connector for photovoltaic systems fulfil. Not only are they supplied in proven Weidmüller quality they are also compatible with most connector mating profiles on the market today. 'WM4' plug connectors are designed with a huge connection capacity: a single crimp contact suffices to connect 4 mm² and 6 mm² conductor cross-sections. 'WM4' plug connectors are rated for current loads of up to 30 A. The rated voltage is 1000 VDC (IEC). When mated the 'WM4' field connector is sealed to IP 67 and the device/enclosure connector to IP 65. The 'WM4' is TUV approved and DIN EN 50521 compliant.
Weidmüller was an early pioneer of engineering solutions for generating electricity through solar power. Today, Weidmüller produces a wide range of products designed to ensure the operational safety and reliability of photovoltaic systems – whilst resolutely focusing on achieving maximum availability and efficiency for customer installations. Designed specifically for photovoltaic systems Weidmüller offers two versions of its 'WM4' plug connector, which it has optimised to ensure rapid and safe connections in PV systems. Reliable safety and performance lead the list of priorities in PV systems – from the modules right down to individual connectors. Low contact resistance, first class workmanship and easy handling are distinguishing features of the 'WM4'. The connectors are supplied in proven Weidmüller quality; and because it is compatible with most connector mating profiles on the market today it is a byword for flexibility. The 'WM4' is designed with a huge connection capacity requiring a single crimp contact to connect 4 mm² and 6 mm² conductor cross-sections.Rated for current loads of up to 30 A 'WM4' photovoltaic plug connectors boast a high current-carrying capacity by design. The rated voltage is 1000 VDC (IEC). The 'WM4' is available in two versions: a field and an device/enclosure plug connector. When mated the 'WM4' field connector is sealed to IP 67 and the enclosure connector to IP 65 (not mated: IP 2x). The 'WM4' is designed for continuous operations in temperatures between -40 °C to +85 °C, a characteristic that also contends with unfavourable ambient temperatures. Accessories such as dust caps and the 'Multi-Tool PV' complement the programme. The dust cap reliably seals the female and male connectors during transport. The 'Multi-Tool PV' offers a range of functions including simple and fast connector termination. With its 'WM4' Weidmüller's offers cutting edge quality to DIN EN 50521 that has also undergone additional TUV testing (TUV = German Technical Inspectorate).
Specifically designed to suit the needs of photovoltaic systems Weidmüller offers a multifunctional tool to facilitate quick and efficient connector assembly: made of sturdy plastic the 'Multi-Tool PV' combines a wide range of different functions in a single tool to simplify preparing and terminating the connector.
The handling characteristics of the 'WM4' photovoltaic plug connector are superior in every respect: the connector is assembled in next to no time from the socket housing with female contact and plug housing with male contact. The first step is to strip the cable of insulation using the 'Multi Stripax PV' tool. The second step consists of making the crimp contact – using the crimping tool 'CTF PV WM4' the user simply crimps both 4 mm² and 6 mm² conductor cross-sections in the crimp die provided. The contact is assembled in the third step – the contact is inserted until it perceptibly 'clicks' into place. Using the 'Multi-Tool PV' the user checks that the contact is correctly assembled. To do so he simple inserts the 'mandrel' into the connector up to the stop. The female or male contact pin has been produced correctly when the notch on the test plug remains clearly visible when inserting the plug connector onto the 'Multi-Tool PV'. Step four consists of tightening the M16 lock nut. To do so the user either uses two 'Multi-Tool PV' tools or an open-ended spanner to tighten the hexagonal M16 lock nut. If the user chooses to use two 'Multi-Tool PV' tools he simply inserts the connector into the middle of the first tool and uses the second tool to tighten the lock nut until it clicks/releases – in a similar manner to a torque wrench. In step five the plug and socket housings are manually pressed together until the locking clips snap into place. The connection is easily undone manually by hand or using the 'Multi-Tool PV'. When performed correctly the connection is sealed to an optimum. In addition to assembling the 'WM4' plug connector the 'Multi-Tool PV' is also designed to open Weidmüller's PV connection box.
