COMAU TECHNOLOGIES FOR INDUSTRY 4.0 SUPPORT SME MANUFACTURING COMPANIES AT THE “MADE” COMPETENCE CENTER IN MILAN
Today at the headquarters of MADE, in Bovisa (Milan), the Competence Center, of which Comau is a partner and founding member, and whose aim is to bring Italian companies closer to Industry 4.0, was presented to the press. Comau has provided the MADE center with its most innovative Smart Factory technological solutions, in addition to its longstanding expertise and global experience in the field of industrial automation. Comau’s objective is to support Italian companies - especially SMEs - in the knowledge, acquisition, and implementation of enabling technologies and advanced processes for smart manufacturing. Within the context of MADE, Comau also participates in a network of excellence, through which it can share increasingly challenging projects aimed at fostering the competitiveness of the Italian entrepreneurial fabric.
At the Competence Center in Milan, the digital and sustainable Factory of the Future takes concrete shape, with Comau contributing to the demonstration cases with its IIoT (Industrial Internet of Things) solutions such as the Vir.GIL digital platform. Developed to assist and guide workers in the execution of manual operations, Vir.GIL is used at MADE to facilitate the assembly of several different components. Comau’s robotized solutions for 4.0 logistics are also on display. Two of its Agile1500 automated guided vehicles are dedicated to the safe and efficient handling of valves (for the Oil & Gas sector). In addition to traditional robots, the AURA high payload collaborative robot (170 kg, the highest on the market) is used together with other industrial units in a MADE center application for the assembly of specific parts for a motorcycle. Finally, the potential of wearable robotics can be explored thanks to MATE, the innovative upper limb exoskeleton developed by Comau to support operators during repetitive tasks in non-ergonomic positions by increasing comfort and reducing physical fatigue.
Ennio Chiatante, Comau’s representative on the Technical Scientific Committee, the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors of the Competence Center in Milan, remarks, “Through MADE, Comau provides Italian companies with a wide and transversal solutions portfolio for Industry 4.0, with innovative products dedicated to every area of development within the Smart Factory, as well as mentoring services to make the best use of them. The transition of companies towards smart manufacturing cannot ignore the need to acquire enabling technologies and above all, new skills that can be used to make their production more streamlined, efficient, and intelligent. As an Italian company, and an international leader, we aim to contribute, through this important initiative, to the development and strengthening of the entrepreneurial fabric of our country.”
MADE was built from the joint work of 48 partners - 43 private companies, 4 universities and 1 public body - and the support of the Ministry for Economic Development. It aims to provide companies with guidance and services in the knowledge transfer, demonstration and use of innovative technologies, in addition to training activities and implementation support for smart production processes and Industry 4.0 projects.
