New hybrid connectors for innovative applications
Hybrid connectors are gaining increasing acceptance on the market. More and more applications are relying on this technology of the one-cable solution (one-cable technology). HUMMEL AG is one of the pioneers in the field of hybrids and offers solutions in the M16, M23 and M40 series.
Hybrid connectors are the prerequisite for single-cable solutions, i.e. the transmission of power, signals and Ethernet in one connection. HUMMEL is considered a pioneer in this field and now offers hybrid variants in three series. The connectors of the M23 series are particularly popular, as they combine high performance with compact design in an ideal way. New is the M23 Hybrid Type 2 (4+4+4+PE) with four power contacts. This connector can also be used in DC networks. Just like the proven hybrid connector (4+4+3+PE), the four Ethernet contacts transmit data at up to 500Mbit/s with a power handling of up to 28A / 630V. They are designed for data transmission via single pair Ethernet or DSL.
A real powerhouse is the M40 Hybrid, which can transmit data rates of up to 100 Mbps. Furthermore, the M40 Hybrid has an additional contact pair that allows the user to realise high electrical characteristic values of brakes, for example. Here, up to 300V/8A are possible, a real special feature in the hybrid connector.
The M16 (12+3) connector offers a proven solution. With a power handling of up to 12A and the data transmission rate of up to 100 Mbit/s, the user has a compact connection solution with appealing performance data.
The reasons for the hybrid trend are obvious. Industrial Ethernet is considered a key technology on the way to Industry 4.0 and many users are asking themselves the question of the right connection solution. The low space requirements of hybrids play a central role here. One connector instead of two or three, less weight on the end device (e.g. motor) and shorter processing times for connector assembly - these are the convincing arguments for these single-cable solutions.
Users in the industrial environment have even more far-reaching requirements for their connection solutions. They need robust designs with high IP protection, impact resistance and all relevant international approvals. Circular connectors from HUMMEL are also available as INOX variants or with the TWILOCK and TWILOCK-S quick-locking systems.
