Vaisala launches cutting-edge C-band weather radar technology for high-performance weather surveillance and smart early-warning decisions
The newest addition to Vaisala's solid-state weather radar family provides extended coverage and exceptional accuracy in an integrated, low-maintenance package for improved prediction of and preparation for adverse weather.
Vaisala, a global leader in weather, environmental, and industrial measurements, today announced the launch of its C-band Weather Radar WRS300, the most efficient radar of its kind that leverages solid-state power amplification to enable weather detection across large areas with unprecedented longevity.
Combined with Vaisala’s industry-leading data processing, its new solid-state C-band weather radar excels at delivering high-resolution weather forecasting information that differentiates between snow, hail, sleet, graupel, and rain. As a stand-alone solution, our new C-band offering covers large areas. However, when paired with the X-band radar – which provides unparalleled short-range coverage – decision-makers receive the most comprehensive intelligence in the industry.
Vaisala’s newest C-band radar redefines weather detection by providing the following benefits:
- Integrated, compact structure. Solid-state technology, combined with a built-in transmitter, ensures the highest performance.
- Patented, high-resolution intelligence in all conditions. The field-proven radar is robust enough to work consistently at high altitudes and during icing, dust, or wind events and power outages.
- Comprehensive information. The solid-state C-band radar delivers coverage of large areas, while Vaisala’s X-band radar provides unmatched short-range coverage. Together, the family of radars achieves the most wide-ranging forecast in the industry.
- Decreased maintenance and low lifetime costs. Remote operation and automatic and continuous calibration reduce the need for site visits and minimize labor costs.
- Maximum longevity. Solid-state technology supports continuous operations with a superior lifespan compared to traditional magnetron and klystron vacuum tubes that last a fraction of that time.
“Weather measurement is Vaisala’s foundation. With over 85 years in the industry, millions of forecasts worldwide count on our expertise for reliable and timely intelligence,” said Paul Melin, VP Products and Technologies, Weather and Environment, Vaisala.
“Solid-state technology has been around for decades throughout many industries. Its cutting-edge use in our newest C-band radar demonstrates our commitment to innovation to ensure our suite of weather detection offerings provide decision-makers with the most accurate information to reduce the impact of severe weather on vulnerable communities.”
Vaisala’s C-band radar is also utilized in the aviation industry, with its reliability reducing the need for maintenance visits, which can impact runway operations. For more information on Vaisala’s solid-state C-band weather radar, visit vaisala.com/weather-radars.
