Multifunctional Power Cube is taking shape

The largest investment project in Fill Maschinenbau’s company history enters its next phase. Construction phase two is in full swing.

Multifunctional Power Cube is taking shape

One year ago, the Upper Austrian machine engineering company Fill started work on a milestone in the company’s almost 60-year history. With an investment volume of around EUR 28 million, the company is constructive an innovative and multifunctional active building, the Power Cube, at its company headquarters in Gurten. The six-storey 25,000 m2 building is run by an intelligent, economical utilization and energy concept. The building shell was completed in March 2024. The next construction phase will see photovoltaic modules being installed across the building’s entire outside surface. This major project brings Fill a major step closer to its goal of being 100 % energy- self-sufficient during the summer months by 2026.

“By constructing the Power Cube, we are taking into account our company’s development. We assume economic as well as environmental responsibility. In addition, this largest investment project in the company’s history is a clear commitment to our location in the Innviertel region,” says Fill CEO and owner Andreas Fill.

Versatile energy supplier
With the Power Cube, Fill is creating the space it needs for logistics as well as a parking garage with 650 parking spaces. The entire building was erected on previously used sections on the company’s premises. This means that no green space was closed off. The photovoltaic systems integrated into the roof and façade act as energy producers and generate more energy than consumed by the building itself. This is a further step by the company towards energy self-sufficiency. In addition, the green garden on the roof of the Power Cube will create another recreational area for the Fill team.

The next expansion stages
By November 2024, levels 1 to 4 of the parking garage should be open for use by employees. The interior work on the top floor will be completed at the same time. In addition to offices with 120 workstations and new fitness and yoga rooms for the Fill team, the publicly accessible service providers (hairdresser & cosmetics, physiotherapy, restaurant) will also be housed here. Outside, a 1,200m2 garden will be created with trees, green areas and seating. The entire roof level is due to be finished and open in spring 2025.
