Celebrating the continued success of the Komatsu and Williams Racing partnership, that was launched for the 2024 Grand Prix season, Komatsu welcomed Vowles to its 110,000m2 European facility, from where the company sells its construction and mining equipment for the region.

The European headquarters, located around 150km from Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, where this weekend’s racing action will take place, also acts as the parts distribution centre for Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

170 Komatsu employees turned out in force to welcome the team warmly to its site and to show them first-hand how Komatsu is creating value together with its partners in Europe. Commemorating the visit, Komatsu Europe International n.v. Managing Director and CEO, Mr Tadashi Maeda, and Chief Financial Officer, Michel Martens, presented James Vowles with a miniature PC1250 crawler excavator.

A tour of the extensive distribution centre allowed the Williams Racing Team Principal to experience first-hand the similarities between Komatsu’s heavy-duty machines and the motorsport technology behind Williams Racing’s FW46 race car. Showcasing the partnership, Vowles got to see a specially liveried Komatsu WA475 wheel loader, adorned in the Williams Racing colour scheme, taking pride of place on site.

Employees were also given the chance to engage with Vowles during a question-and-answer session that revealed more about the success driving the team’s Komatsu partnership, and the value the two companies are creating together. It provided a fascinating insight into the running of a Grand Prix team, and the spectacle of the Belgian Grand Prix with its iconic characteristics.

The Komatsu and Williams Racing partnership has already delivered value on the track, with the team scoring championship points in Monaco and at Silverstone. The drivers Alex Albon and Logan Sargeant have their sights set on more in Belgium with the Komatsu logo featured on their helmets and on the FW46 car in eye-catching locations.

James Vowles, Williams Racing Team Principal said: “Williams Racing is proud to have Komatsu as our Principal Partner, and it has been fascinating to understand Komatsu’s business in more depth with today’s visit to the European HQ in Vilvoorde. The company’s commitment to technology and innovation is apparent, two characteristics that we, at Williams Racing, share in abundance. From the blue liveried wheel loader to the clear passion from the Komatsu employees, the visit was the perfect illustration of how we are creating value together. We now look forward to the Belgian Grand Prix where we aim to translate the off-track celebration into a points-scoring success on-track.”

Tadashi Maeda, Managing Director & CEO from Komatsu Europe International N.V. said: “An important component of our partnership with Williams Racing has been the genuine interest that the team has shown in Komatsu’s global business. James Vowles has led by example in this regard, so it was our privilege to welcome him to our Komatsu European Headquarters in Vilvoorde ahead of the Belgian Grand Prix. Our staff were all captivated by what he had to say and were excited to have him in their ‘home’. He was generous with his time, and we hope he enriched his knowledge of what we do in Europe to support our partners and customers. Creating value together only happens when we have like-minded partners like Williams Racing and we wish them all the best for the Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps.”
