Kontron, a leading global provider of IoT/Embedded Computer Technology (ECT), is using Intel® N or Intel® Core™ i3 N series processors and Intel Atom® X7000 processors (code-named 'Alderlake N' or 'Amston Lake') in the new KBox A-151-AML/ADN, which offer particularly high processor and graphics capacity with low power dissipation and an excellent price/performance ratio. The new KBox A-151-RPL with 13th Generation Intel® Core™ processors (code-named 'Raptor Lake') is available for even more performance-hungry applications. It is particularly suitable for demanding IoT edge or AI applications and, like the KBox A151-AML/ADN, has an expansion slot on the front (I/O door), which can be used to add additional functionalities such as fieldbuses, interfaces such as graphics, serial or digital I/Os and Ethernet interfaces. The systems can also be optionally supplemented with 4G/5G or WiFi 6 connectivity.
The industrial-grade Box PCs of the KBox A-151 series have been specially designed for demanding IoT gateway applications in industrial environments. The new KBox A-151-AML/ADN based on processors from the Intel® N or Intel® Core™ i3 N series or Intel Atom® X7000 series with up to eight cores and the even more powerful new KBox A-151-RPL based on 13th Generation Intel® Core™ processors with up to ten cores support OEM manufacturers and solution providers in exploiting the full potential of their IoT infrastructures.
In addition to two display ports and two 2.5GbE interfaces with TSN functionality, the new Box PCs also have two serial interfaces. The KBox A-151-RPL offers four fast USB 3.2 ports, while the KBox A-151-AML/ADN has three USB 3.2 ports, one of which has a USB-C socket, as well as a USB 2.0 port.
Using the three M.2 expansion slots, which can be used to integrate NVMe SSDs as well as fieldbuses and wireless technology such as 4G/5G or WiFi 6 connectivity, both the KBox A-151-AML/ADN and the KBox A-151-RPL can be expanded with a wide range of functionalities.
Most of the system expansions can be accessed via the new expansion slot (I/O door) on the front of the system.
The fanless, robust system design guarantees an extended service life and high system availability, even in harsh industrial environments. Both the KBox A-151-AML/ADN and the KBox A-151-RPL can be operated in the range from 0 °C to +60 °C or optionally in the extended temperature range between -40 °C and +60 °C. The flexible Box PCs can be easily integrated into a wide range of industrial environments using DIN rail mounting (top-hat rail) or wall mounting.
To meet the increased cyber security requirements, Kontron offers the hardened and secure Linux®-based KontronOS operating system and the KontronGrid fleet management solution for managing and simplifying the roll-out of container applications on edge devices.
