With its RMS2000 2D radar sensor, SICK is presenting a versatile and reliable detection and measurement solution that is suitable for use under harsh operating and ambient conditions.
The RMS2000 is suitable for demanding industrial applications that require a high level of adaptability. The RMS2000 can, for example, monitor up to four freely configurable fields while at the same time determining both the 2D position and the speed of a multitude of objects. Using the Doppler effect, the radar technology of the RMS2000 determines whether objects are stationary or mobile, whether they are approaching or retreating, and how fast they are.
The RMS2000 is currently available in two versions: for standard scanning ranges of 0.4 m to 100 m as well as for long range applications with scanning ranges of 1.6 m to 200 m. Both versions of the radar sensor offer a wide aperture angle of 120° horizontally and 8° vertically – and thereby a large detection field. Weighing 300 g and with a compact housing (34 mm x 97 mm x 96 mm), both devices are exceptionally easy to handle.
High reliability, low maintenance costs
Ruggedness means reliability – especially when harsh operating and ambient conditions prevail. This is where the RMS2000's strengths really come to the fore. The rugged aluminum housing protects against mechanical damage, and the absence of internal moving parts makes the sensor impervious to vibrations, impacts or shocks. The IP67 and IP69 enclosure ratings ensure lasting protection of the RMS2000 against ingress, even under high-pressure cleaning. Nickel-plated plug connectors and industrial-grade M12 connection technology ensure the corrosion proofness and long-term reliability of the cabling. The reliable ambient operating temperature range is rated at 40 °C to +65 °C. The RMS2000 is maintenance-free during operation. Thanks to these features, the RMS2000 offers a high detection reliability, availability and durability when used under difficult conditions.
Easy parameterization, application-connectivity appropriate to the application
The browser-based SOPASair software can be used for servicing and diagnostic purposes as well as for parameterizing the RMS2000. It is possible, for example, to customize the IP and network address, the working range and detection fields as well as the sensitivity and sensitivity thresholds for individual distance ranges or the overall working range. Depending on the specific configuration and thanks to the powerful field evaluation integrated into the sensor, the RMS2000 is able to switch up to four digital outputs in order, for example, to output visual and acoustic warning messages. Two digital I/Os are available for incoming signals. Users who would like to utilize the measurement data of the RMS2000 in their own software applications have the option to transmit the data via an Ethernet TCP/IP interface (10/100 Mbit/s) for further use.
