AMETEK Land Showcases Slag Detection Technology at Marcegaglia UK Steelworks
AMETEK Land's new video at Sheffield steel plant showcases Slag Detection System and temperature measurement solutions, enhancing safety, efficiency, and quality in steel production.
It is narrated by Marcegaglia UK’s Phil Smales, who guides viewers through the stainless steel melt shop, explaining how the mill operates, and showing where the LAND solutions are used in the process.
There is a particular focus on LAND’s Slag Detection System (SDS V2) with the IMAGEPRO-SDS software, which plays an important role in ensuring quality in the plant’s Argon Oxygen Decarburization (AOD) process, using the mid-wave camera technology.
James Cross, Land’s Head of Industry Management, also discusses the longstanding partnership between Land and Marcegaglia UK and demonstrates other solutions for the steel process, including the Cyclops L portable pyrometer which is ideal for liquid steel temperatures, replacing dip thermocouples for increased user safety.
He said: “I feel like we’re part of the digital ecosystem that helps with the operation and efficiency of the Marcegaglia UK plant, and we’re proud to be a part of that. We’ve developed a great partnership with the team, and I’m delighted that, with this new video, customers can see for themselves the difference that we’re making.
“It’s the first video of this kind that we have produced, and one we believe will help industrial plant operators understand how we can forge a similar collaboration with them, meeting their own unique steel production challenges.”
Phil Smales added: “The main challenges are keeping tight control on temperatures and the materials. The LAND team look at our processes and comes up with ideas or equipment that could enhance our processes in our plant for future operations.”
