DOSSOT installs overhead crane in confined space at DRUMEL Industrie

Drumel Industrie invested in a new machining center, requiring a crane installation by Dossot and Somiram, both Verlinde partners.

A technical integration challenge

The main challenge facing the installation of Drumel Industrie's new machining centre was the restricted space. The machining centre, which had already been ordered when discussions began, required a customized power supply solution and was to be located in an existing warehouse that had no overhead lifting equipment.

Mr Walkiewicz, Dossot's managing director, explains: “The available space for installing the overhead crane was exceptionally restricted, with a clearance of just 1 meter above the machine for placing a 6.3 tonne crane. It was obvious that a standard crane would not be suitable. We therefore opted for a 6.3-tonne overhead travelling crane with a span of 13,070 mm, fitted with a Verlinde EUROBLOC VT204 double girder electric wire rope hoist. Instead of a monorail hoist for suspending the device, we chose a double girder one, which, placed on two rails, distributes the load between them and optimizes hook height."

An installation optimized for safety and performance
In addition, the travelling crane had to be anchored to the building structure in a special way. To gain extra height, the beams were not simply placed on supports but were directly inserted into the walls.
Impressive detail, the distance between the ceiling and the hoist is just 5 cm!

Dossot also installed a hoist equipped with a load limiter with two Maximum Working Capacity (MWC) thresholds, enabling the user to operate with two different types of load in complete safety. In particular, this feature prevents the risk of accidentally breaking off parts attached to the machine. A restricted travel area was programmed to avoid any risk of collision between the hook and the machine.

To further optimize the odds, and for an optimum operation in Drumel Industrie's industrial environment, the power supply was designed with an energy chain, minimizing exposure to splinters and dust.

Efficient teamwork and continued support

In 2024, the project proceeded according to a rigorous schedule: kick-off meeting in February, order placement in April, installation in September in order to anticipate the machine arrival in October. The lifting solution was in fact intended to successfully install the machine. The precise coordination of the project timing ensured that the installation was smooth and efficient.

The crane was manufactured by Somiram, while Dossot was responsible for sizing, installing and commissioning. Dossot will also be responsible for crane maintenance, ensuring optimum reliability and performance of the system over the long term.

DOSSOT, a long-standing service partner to industry
Mr Walkiewicz declared: “As a Verlinde distributor of long-standing, Dossot has a solid reputation in the field of industrial lifting. In 2025, the company will celebrate its 75th anniversary, proof of its stability and commitment to serving its customers. Thanks to this expertise, Drumel Industrie benefits from a lifting solution perfectly adapted to its growing needs in the production of large and heavy parts."

Mr. Zanfonato, Drumel Industrie Site Manager, concluded: “These equipment investments strengthen our production capacity and optimize our processes, supporting our long-term competitiveness. These strategic improvements position us to respond effectively to market needs and handle orders for larger parts."
