ARPRO® delivers 30% weight reduction for award-winning car seat
Leading car seat manufacturer, Avionaut, has launched a new, ultra-lightweight model onto the global marketplace, allowing more parents to buy an essential baby product which exceeds the latest European safety standards.
Developed in accordance with i-Size, the European-wide standard for car seats, the rear-facing Ultralite model designed by Avionaut surpasses the i-Size benchmark for frontal impact head protection by 53%, thoracic spine protection by 40% and lateral impact head protection by 20%. One of the few car seats on the market to eclipse the i-Size benchmarks, the Ultralite can be easily plugged in to an ISOFix attachment system to connect the seat to the car chassis, ensuring correct installation.Designed to greatly reduce collision impact force, thus enhancing infant safety, the Ultralite’s weight comes in at a mere 2.5kg. This 30% reduction in weight, compared with Avionaut’s previous car seat model which weighed 3.5kg, eases the task for parents’ lifting the Ultralite into position, thanks to the use of innovative, lightweight and food-safe material ARPRO®. The seat is designed for use for infants weighing up to 13 kg and between 45 – 86 cm in height, aged approximately between 0 to 15 months.
i-Size seats keep children rearward facing for longer and improve protection to the child’s head, neck and vital organs. The i-Size rules are being phased in gradually across Europe and currently run alongside the existing R44/04 standard.
Bert Suffis, an ARPRO® innovation manager for Europe, Middle East and Africa, said: “As we worked with Avionaut to develop the Ultralite car seat, we were conscious throughout of our remit to make every aspect of the design count. Each gram saved in the process means better performance and improved safety via higher shock absorption performance. The end result is a lightweight, safe and easy-to-handle car seat.”
“ARPRO®’s properties matched all our requirements,” said Lukasz Karwala, CEO of Avionaut. “Lightweight and resilient, the material was a perfect match for Avionaut’s innovative design and we look forward to collaborating with ARPRO® on future projects.”
ARPRO® is a lightweight, durable and energy absorbing material which is used in a wide range of applications worldwide. Its benefits include the ability to absorb vibrations, the prevention of moisture build-up and resistance to temperature changes.
Ultralite is the winner of a prestigious 2016 Red Dot Design Award for ergonomic design. The model is available to purchase in a range of ten colours.
