SANY Accelerates Global Green Energy Transition with Milestone Microgrid Projects in Africa

SANY recently witnessed two major milestones in its sustainable energy solutions with the African Copper Mine Microgrid Project successfully connected to the grid and the Chowa Mine Photovoltaic-Storage Microgrid Power Generation Project breaking ground in Zambia. These milestones reaffirm its commitment to delivering efficient, green energy solutions worldwide.

African Copper Mine Microgrid Successfully Connected to the Grid
At 18:14 on February 27, as Deng Junbo, Director of SANY Silicon Energy Microgrid Research Institute, announced the closing of load switch, the African copper mine microgrid project successfully achieved grid-connected power generation after seven months from project signing to completion, marking the completion of SANY’s first overseas photovoltaic-storage-diesel microgrid system.

The microgrid comprises an 8MWp photovoltaic (PV) system, a 24MWh energy storage system, and a 3MW diesel generator. By integrating advanced large-capacity energy storage grid-forming technology with state-of-the-art energy management solutions, the system ensures a stable and reliable power supply while significantly reducing operational costs compared to traditional off-grid diesel generation.

According to preliminary estimates, the microgrid is expected to generate over 11 million kWh of electricity annually, reducing carbon emissions by approximately 8,200 tons. This project not only supports the green transformation of the local mining industry but also enhances the region’s energy mix, reinforcing SANY’s commitment to sustainable development.

Zambia Chowa Mine Project Officially Breaks Ground
Building on the success of its first overseas microgrid project, SANY launched its second international initiative—the Chowa Mine Photovoltaic-Storage Microgrid Power Generation Project on March 8, 2025, in Chirundu, Zambia.

Following the signing of the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with local partners on January 15, 2025, SANY swiftly formed a dedicated international team and employed a strategic procurement approach—primarily sourcing from China while supplementing with local emergency procurement and internal allocation from other project.

By February 18, the first batch of PV modules and mounting structures had been successfully shipped with core equipment arriving at the project site in phases. On March 8, a team of 10 specialized professionals arrived at Zambia, officially kicking off construction. The entire process—from agreement signing to groundbreaking—was completed in just 53 days, showcasing SANY’s outstanding project management capabilities.

These projects exemplify SANY Group’s commitment to integrating Globalization, Digitalization, and Decarbonization. With the focus on the development principle of green and sustainable, SANY remains dedicated to driving global energy transformation and contributing to a cleaner, more sustainable future for all.
