Richard Molloy, Sustainability Segment Manager for Eaton’s Electrical Sector, believes that uncertainties over the feed in tariff (FIT) are damaging to the renewable energy sector and, ultimately, to the environment. Here, he explains why.
Experts agree: The true potential savings in engineering lie in automation and standardisation. The new EPLAN Engineering Center One closes the huge gap that often exists between conventional and mechatronic engineering. Predefined standards such as macros or value sets can be combined automatically to a schematic through MS Excel. Solution provider EPLAN will present its new development at this year's Hanover Fair.
The MX series of multifunctional milling centres are machines with a great deal of flexibility, allowing machining operations in 5 axes and on 5 sides, with just one part clamping from roughing to finishing and including turning operations. The MX series combines power, speed and accuracy: machining in 5 axes can be performed for workpieces weighing up to 4000 kg; hard materials are machined in a minimum time and extremely high precision is guaranteed for creating contours and profiles. These models are particularly appreciated in the aeronautical sector.
Weidmüller has now extended its established family of "RockStar® HighPower connectors" with the new high current connector "RockStar® HighPower 250 A" equipped with crimp connection technology for 250 A and up to 4000 V. The new high current connectors are based on a modular design, just the same as the well-known "RockStar® HighPower" 550 A version. The use of one to four-pole modules ensures users always obtain the right connector to fulfil their respective application requirements. The space-saving, 250 A rated power contacts are easily assembled to create a variety of different vibration-proof versions: one connector with four power contacts or with three power contacts and a PE contact or with two power contacts or as the most compact version with a single power contact. The two-piece, size 8 die cast aluminium housing comprising hood, base and bulkhead designs is equipped with a large surface area PE connection; the same applies to the mating frame. The highly impact resistant and corrosion resistant housings are easily assembled and are rated to degree of protection IP68 and IP69k. Assembly of the newly developed bulkhead housing is supported by a rapid assembly mating frame complete with pre-assembled fastening screws. Weidmüller has redesigned the crimp contacts of the "RockStar® HighPower 250 A" so that they can now be dismantled via the M25 cable entry bore. Multi-core, flexible and finely stranded copper conductors from 25 to 95 mm2 are easily terminated using standard crimping tools. No special tools are needed. Thanks to the interior EMC connection, which can be adapted to the respective cable diameter, the "RockStar"®HighPower 250 A" has excellent EMC characteristics. The wide temperature range of -50 °C to +120 °C and housing impact resistance up to 7 joules ensures users are able to deploy the new high current connectors in extreme environments without reservation.
The IM-6500 Series from Keyence is a new type of measurement device. It is a completely new concept to rival established measuring equipment such as profile projectors, measuring microscopes or automatic CNC measuring machines. The dimensional measurement concept of the IM-6500 series utilises state of the art imaging technology, thus enabling any user to perform reliable measurements in a minimum of time and with an increased accuracy. You simply place a part on a measurement stage, push the button and up to 99 dimensions are measured in a few seconds with accuracies down to 0.7 micron. No tiresome positioning, nor risks of measurement variance or deviation between individual operators. The simplicity of use results in the IM-6500 series emerging as a massive cost saving alternative to traditional time consuming measurement processes.
LATROBE, Pa. - Kennametal Inc. (NYSE: KMT) announced today that it has been named one of the World’s Most Ethical Companies by The Ethisphere Institute, a leading international think-tank dedicated to the creation, advancement and sharing of best practices in business ethics, corporate social responsibility, anti-corruption and sustainability.
The IM Series is a new type of measurement device. More than a profile projector, a measuring microscope or an automatic CNC measuring device, the dimensional measurement concept by imagery technology of the IM-6000 series is a new system with which it becomes possible to perform reliable measurements in a minimum of time and with an increased accuracy. You simply place the part to be calibrated, push the button and up to 99 dimensions are measured in a few seconds with accuracy down to 0.5 micron. No tiresome positioning, nor risks of measurement variance or deviation between the various operators. Finally, it is a cost saving alternative to traditional processes.
Traditionally, mechanical, electrical and software elements have been strictly separated and developed in a rigid sequence. Today, these disciplines are merging into a more integrated mechatronic approach. This not only paves the way for more efficient parallel development, but also simplifies coordination between mechanical, electrical and software engineers. This is why B&R integrates existing expert tools into the Automation Studio development platform via interfaces that ensure full transparency and functionality. Automation Studio provides all the functions needed to develop and configure an automation solution – such as those for creating control and HMI applications, linking motion control components, safety technology and much more. Expert tools are integrated via open, transparent interfaces to provide specialized functionality – such as EPLAN Electric P8 for electrical planning.
