Bargteheide – Swiss energy supplier Axpo is close to finishing the demanding large-scale “Linthal 2015” construction project: Switzerland’s largest hydroelectric undertaking will increase the overall output of the existing Linth-Limmern power plants from 480 MW to 1,480 MW. A new underground pumping station was created to pump water from the Limmernboden reservoir at an altitude of 1,860 m above sea level into the Muttsee lake about 600 m higher up. This elevation difference will be used to produce hydroelectric power on demand. The heart of the project in particular – the underground center for the new pumped storage hydroelectric power station – required gigantic efforts. At an extreme incline of 45 degrees and a height difference of approximately 180 m, conveyor systems in a sub-station transported 500 t of excavated material per hour, around the clock. On a second conveyor belt, the crushed material was transported up to the gravel plant where it was stored or processed for further use. For a total of three years, these conveyors were driven by NORD industrial gear units and transported approximately one million tons of material.
What to do when the crane of your choice is no longer available? An Australian provider of overhead cranes fulfills all customer needs, even when the parameters are very particular. For this application, the challenge was to synchronize a new bridge crane with two existing ones. The German manufacturer NORD DRIVESYSTEMS configured the drives keeping in mind the end-users budgetary requirements.
At the PTC Asia exhibition (27—30 October, 2014, Shanghai) NORD DRIVESYSTEMS (hall E1, booth B1) will present drive solutions for industrial applications in a wide range of sectors. The main exhibit, a working manipulator model achieves maximum dynamics due to decentralized NORD drives. This solution is featured in palletizers manufactured by NORD customer Symach. The drive units combine IE2 energy-saving motors, highly efficient gearboxes, and intelligent motor-mounted frequency inverters from the SK 200E series, all manufactured in-house by NORD. Important additional applications include conveyor technology, pumps, and ventilators.
Bargteheide – The complete world of drive technology at the tip of a finger: the NORD DRIVESYSTEMS website has been relaunched with a fresh look and enhanced usability on mobile devices. At www.nord.com, users from all industry sectors will find the right drive solution for any task. Product details, reference projects, and the download section are neatly arranged for PCs, tablets, and smartphones alike. Navigation is equally simple and comfortable via mouse and touchscreen. For major national markets, there are local language websites from NORD subsidiaries, for instance in Chinese, Vietnamese, and Portuguese (BR). The well-organized product section provides comprehensive information on all available gearboxes, motors, and drive electronics units as well as a special focus on energy-efficient motors. The individual product feature pages contain detailed characteristic data and include all the relevant links to documentation and software. Users can generate CAD files and 3D models in virtually no time.
NORD DRIVESYSTEMS supplies efficient drive units for dynamic speed control and automatic process control in applications that need to be regularly cleaned with high-pressure steam jets. Developed for strict hygiene requirements and featuring IP66/IP69K ingress protection, smooth-surface motors with an integrated frequency inverter are available for the 0.37..1.1 kW performance range. Common applications include conveyors, pumps, mixers, and agitators. Sensor data such as pressure or flow rate values can be directly communicated to the drives, enabling them to automatically adapt to current demand. If partial load operation is frequent, an automatic energy-saving function decreases the running costs by a significant share. In conveyor applications, light barriers can be used for contact-free or gapless accumulation. A soft start function reduces the starting current and results in less stress on the mechanical system and the transported goods.
Bargteheide – At the 2014 Hannover Fair, NORD DRIVESYSTEMS will showcase high-efficiency drive solutions for conveying applications. Compact two-stage helical bevel gear units are combined with energy-saving motors. Based on a comprehensive drive electronics program, NORD can configure drive units for a very wide selection of functional requirements. The frequency inverters for motor-mounting cover performance up to 22 kW. They provide high dynamics and are the only models in their class featuring positioning functionality and optional hoist and safety functions. The inverters that integrate sensor and actuator interfaces will be shown in synchronized operation with other drive models at the tradeshow booth.
China’s Wuhan Iron and Steel Group (WISCO), one of the largest companies in the nation’s steel sector, has built a new transshipment port to better handle growing quantities of imported ore arriving in the East China Sea. The port consists of several berths and yards where 15 million tons of ore per year can be unloaded from huge ocean-going vessels. Various bulk handling machinery installed throughout the port by three different OEMs has one thing in common: in all of these super-size loaders, unloaders, and stacker-reclaimers, a total of over 170 geared motors supplied by German manufacturer NORD DRIVESYSTEMS ensure everything stays reliably in motion.
STROS, the largest manufacturer of construction hoists in the Czech Republic, supplies customers all over the world. Three systems ship per week. Eight of the high-rises at “Moscow City”, a major construction project in Russia, are being built or have already been completed with STROS hoists. The hoists reach heights of 300 m or more and have to withstand wind speeds of up to 20 m/s. Safety is therefore fundamental. STROS has been working with NORD DRIVESYSTEMS as its single-source drive supplier for more than 15 years.
