Products for semiconductor processing / handling

Morgan is at the forefront in the development of materials and components for the demanding environments of semiconductor wafer processing. Our products are installed in fabrication plants all over the world, helping semiconductor manufacturers optimise their processes, maximize yield, and reduce their total cost of ownership

Our materials offer excellent corrosion resistance and mechanical strength, exceptional electrical insulation combined with an excellent surface finish. These properties are essential for end-effectors designed to handle 300 and 450mm wafers. Due to the mechanical strength of our materials, we are able to offer a better strength to thickness ratio than the parts they replace

Corrosive chemical processes used in semiconductor wafer production demands materials with excellent corrosion resistance.

Our alumina deposition chambers and isolating rings can be manufactured with OD in excess of 510mm. Yttria coatings as well as textured alumina can be applied with a proprietary technique that gives full covalent bonding and not just the mechanical bonding associated with plasma coatings.

Graphite and ceramic are essential materials for tools used in the process chambers that process silicon wafers, processes that are being constantly pushed to improve chip performance.

Speciality graphite and carbon products

We offer a range of high-specification, high-purity graphite and carbon products that allow semiconductor manufacturers to operate at higher temperatures with improved efficiency, including; ultra-high purity and standard porous rods, carbon and graphite felts, rigid boards, powders and machined graphite furnace components. Our products are also widely used in the LED manufacturing process.

Diamond like carbon coatings

Our Diamond-like carbon (DLC), and other nanocomposite coatings provide significant performance enhancement for electrostatic chucks where they are used as a sacrificial wear-layer to protect the underlying electronics, extending the life of these parts.

CVD SiC and PBN products

Morgan are specialist manufacturers of chemical vapour deposition (CVD) Silicon Carbide (SiC) and Pyrolytic Boron Nitride (PBN) products used in the production of semiconductor materials.

Silicon carbide

CVD SiC is an ultra-pure, non-porous ceramic material and it has been used in semiconductor applications such as Rapid Thermal Processing (RTP), Plasma Etch, and Metal-Organic Chemical Vapor Deposition (MOCVD) process. Our proprietary SiC surface treatment process has proven to minimise particle release in plasma chamber. We also have a patent on a near-net shape forming process for SiC rings, which enables us to produce SiC rings in high volume.

Morgan produces two grades of CVD SiC, High Resistivity (HR) grade (>10 Ω-cm) and
Engineered Low Resistivity (ELR) grade (< 0.1 Ω-cm).

PBN crucibles and plates

CVD PBN is a high purity, non-porous ceramic material with anisotropic thermal properties that make it an ideal choice for high temperature applications. It is non-toxic, non-wetting and inert to nearly all chemicals.

Our high quality PBN crucibles have proven to improve the process performance for
crystal growth, whether the growth method is Liquid Encapsulated Czochralski (LEC),
Vertical Gradient Freeze (VGF), or Bridgman.

Our high quality PBN plates are an excellent choice for heating arrays for MOCVD reactors and as electrical insulators for CIGS sources.

High volume ceramic and glass components

Morgan is a leading supplier of high volume ceramic and glass components in a vast array of simple and complicated shapes. Our high volume ceramics are used as critical
components to produce wire-wound RF inductors and shapes to support a vast range
of electronics applications including cell phones, laptops, satellite based stations, HDTV,
personal appliances, lighting controls, circuit board overhead protection, thermo-controls, sensors, wireless applications and energy harvesting.

Advanced products for laser and optoelectronic applications

Morgan produces a wide range of specifically designed and tailored high grade ceramic components for the laser and opto electronic market.
Properties of our advanced materials include; dimensional stability, high mechanical strength, high reflectivity and vacuum integrity ensure an extended life time even when operating at temperatures in excess of 1000 °C making them highly cost effective. We also offer products suitable for water cooled parts or the filtration of UV.

Wide bandwidth transducers for SONAR

Morgan Advanced Materials provides high performance piezoelectric ceramic components and transducers for sonar systems used in a range of marine applications including; depth sounding, navigation and surveillance in the oil exploration industry, and commercial fish finding.

Our wide bandwidth transducers enable the use of more advanced imaging algorithms such as Chirp, or Synthetic Aperture Focusing Techniques (SAFT). In addition, higher frequencies can be used to increase target resolution, whilst lower frequencies remain available for better deep-water performance.

Our advanced technology can be adapted to higher frequency ranges and a variety of sizes and shapes that require dual-frequency operation. A key advantage of our dual frequency transducer is that it offers wideband dual frequency operation through the same slot, reducing installation times.

Our specialist manufacturing capabilities enable us to supply high quality components in high volume, at competitive prices. With in-house underwater acoustic test tanks and pressure testing facilities to validate performance, we are able to offer customised solutions in short lead times.

Standard and multilayer bimorph actuators

By combining our superior piezoelectric materials expertise and globally-recognised multilayer production techniques Morgan offers a variety of high efficiency, low voltage multilayer actuators to meet the growing demand for precise, controllable and repeatable displacement devices in the micrometer and sub-micrometer range.

Radio frequency capacitors

Morgan is a world leader in the design and manufacture of complex electronic ceramic components and assemblies used in a wide range of applications and cutting edge technologies. We specialise in the development and production of dielectric and ferroelectric materials and components. This range of high voltage radio frequency (RF) disc capacitors is fabricated from very low loss CLASS 1 ceramic dielectric materials which permit them to carry very high electrical loads over a wide frequency range.

Our RF ceramic capacitors are used extensively in antenna tuning in high power radio applications and for the high power handheld units used by the emergency services.
We also offer custom RF ceramic components, which can be designed into a wide range of communications applications including satellite communication systems, base stations and antennae.

High voltage capacitors

Morgan has decades of experience manufacturing high voltage ceramic capacitors including those for both DC and power frequency (50/60Hz) applications.
Our products are used worldwide in challenging service conditions and are backed by rigorous testing procedures to ensure their electrical integrity and long service life.

Live-line capacitors

Our live-line capacitor assemblies are built into capacitor divider circuits and connected to medium high voltage lines and used to sense the presence of voltage on the lines.

Voltage multiplier assemblies

Our series connected disc capacitors have been developed for use in low power voltage multipliers for high voltage DC generators. Our advances in ceramic metallisation processes have played a major role in the commercialisation of modern communications, signalling and control technologies.

Our metallised ceramics, feedthroughs and metal-to-ceramic brazed assemblies are manufactured from variety of ceramic grades with matching metallising processes enabling us to provide a complete solution.
