ABB’s SACE Infinitus solid-state circuit breaker will make its Japan premiere at the CEATEC 2023 sustainable technology exhibition on 17-20 October in Makuhari, Chiba City. The SACE Infinitus is the world’s first IEC60947-2 solid state circuit breaker and a key technology for the introduction of next-generation sustainable energy networks.

The SACE Infinitus enables new renewable microgrids and industrial distribution systems to use Direct Current (DC) and thereby improve energy efficiency by up to 10 percent. DC distribution improves energy efficiency by removing AC distribution’s many conversion steps and losses and enables recovery of kinetic energy from industrial robots and motors.

ABB will share its vision for the role of DC in energy transition and the revolutionary role the SACE Infinitus will play in a speech on 19 October at 1400 in Convention Hall B.

SACE Infinitus is the world’s first IEC 60947-2 certified circuit breaker with semiconductor technology, optimized for low losses, providing an all-in-one device for DC power protection and control. The device provides ultrafast protection to enable new DC network architectures, making energy safe, smart and sustainable.

ABB’s SACE Infinitus uses power electronics to provide near-instant control of DC fault currents. The solid-state circuit breaker’s response time is more than 100 times faster than mechanical circuit breakers.

The SACE Infinitus can be utilized for DC distribution applications on industrial sites, in commercial buildings, marine vessels and for electric vehicle charging, using renewable energy and battery storage systems to achieve energy savings and carbon footprint reductions.

ABB’s booth will also provide the opportunity to see in person the innovative SMISSLINE TP distribution system, the world’s first plug-in socket system that ensures devices and components can be snapped on and off safely under voltage without additional protective equipment. A demonstration of ABB AbilityTM Energy Manager with live data from a containerized data centre will show how ABB’s digital advances are supporting customers to digitalize their energy to drive efficiency and sustainability.
