Acceed introduces L3 TSN switch (SFP/RJ45) for real time automation
Ethernet has become established as the standard in automation networks, however it has now reached its limits because Industry 4.0, robotics and machine intelligence pose increasingly higher requirements, in particular of real time communication.
Layer 3 TSN switch TSN-6325-8T4S4X for real time automation networksTo-date, specifically developed bus systems have only resulted in real time-capable data networks working separately from networks with time non-critical data traffic. A set of new standards under the generic term TSN (Time Sensitive Networking) has the target of rendering current Ethernet networks fit for demanding real time requirements with time synchronisation of all participants. By nature, the core components of new TSN networks include managed TSN switches such as the new TSN-6325-8T4S4X, now available from Acceed.
The name 8T4S4X stand for the equipping with 16 ports, of which 8 are 10/100/1000BASE-T (RJ45), 4 1G/2.5GBASE-X (SFP) and 4 10G-BASE-SR/LR (SFP+). In addition to supporting TSN, the TSN-6325-8T4S4X offers numerous functions for efficient and safe data communication, including Quality of Service (QoS) for setting data traffic priorities, port mirroring and VLAN support for network segmentation.
The new administrable TSN switch TSN-6325-8T4S4X from the manufacturer Planet is a switch which meets industrial requirements in robust metal casing for safe use in harsh environments which addresses all industrial automation network levels, from the field bus up to the factory backbone. The admissible ambient temperature for operation is -40 to +75 °C. With its 10 Gbps fibreglass interfaces, the TSN-6325-8T4S4X can process large data quantities in a secure topology, which is connected to an industrial backbone, a 5G NR basis station or a wireless Wi-Fi6/6E-AP.
Through application of the TSN standard and use of the IEEE 1588 Precision Time Protocol (PTPv2) for time synchronisation on all ports, the TSN-6325-8T4S4X offers real time network communication with low latency for industrial automation, 5G NR networks, Industry 4.0, 4K/8K video streaming and VR/AR applications.
The TSN standards supported include the IEEE 802.1AS-REV profile for time synchronisation, IEEE 802.1Qbv enhancements for scheduled traffic, IEEE 802.1Qbu frame pre-emption, IEEE 802.3br Interspersing Express Traffic (IET), IEEE 802.1Qci for Per-Stream Filtering and Policing (PSFP) and IEEE 802.1CB Frame Replication and Elimination for Reliability (FRER) for seamless redundancy.
System reliability is secured via redundant ring technology with the capability to restore data connections fast. In addition to the ITU-T G.8032 ERPS technology (Ethernet Ring Protection Switching), the Spanning Tree Protocol (802.1s MSTP) is used. The protection mechanisms include the 802.1X port-based and MAC-based user and device authentication, moreover the DHCP Snooping, IP Source Guard and Dynamic ARP Inspection functions for protection against attacks and to reject ARP packages with an invalid MAC address.
The redundant electricity supply system provides additional operational security. As further features, the communication protocols SSHv2 and TLSv1.2 for protection against cyberattacks, the Modbus TCP/IP protocol and the SMTP and SNMP messaging protocols for fast alarm notification in case of disturbances are supported.
The Planet Technology Corporation, founded in 1993 and listed on the Taipei stock exchange, is a global leading provider of IP-based network solutions for IoT, IIoT and IoV applications. The German distributor Acceed informs about the new TSN switch under www.acceed.com and further products from Planet for industrial networks, automation, IIoT applications and Smart Home solutions in detail.
