Kontron VX6124 aligns to SOSA™
Kontron, has announced that its VX6124 is now designed according to the SOSA™ (Sensor Open Systems Architecture) profile specifications.
According to VITA65, the board is now aligned with SLT6-PAY-4F1Q1H4U1T1S1S1TU2U2T1H-10.6.3-0 slot profile and MOD6-PAY-4F1Q1H4U1T1S1S1TU2U2T1H-12.6.3-2 module profile.
Launched in 2020, the Kontron VX6124 now benefits, in particular, from enhanced interoperability, further supporting the creation of complex and powerful HPEC systems comprising multiple CPUs and switch boards. In addition, the XMC slot is designed for features extension such as co-processing with GPUs or security with FPGAs.
“The alignment of the Kontron VX6124 with the SOSA™ standard allows further enhanced interoperability, improved subsystem SWAP-c, and easy technology upgrades, thus reducing development time, cost, and risk,” said Kontron’s Product Manager, Christophe Ferrande.
Based on the 16-core NXP QorIQ Layerscape LX2160A processor equipped with 16 GByte DDR4 memory, the VX6124 is the 6U version of an ARM high-end architecture featuring high speed Ethernet and PCIe connectivity for avoiding bandwidth bottlenecks. With more than 10-years’ availability, the VX6124 is designed for long-term programs and harsh environments, as defined by the VITA 47 standard. A 3U version of the board can be easily provided for space-constrained applications.
The CPU subsystem fits a small power budget to enable efficient use of a mezzanine coprocessor. With the LX2160A processor speed set to 2.2 GHz, the VX6124 power budget does not exceed 30W while offering the following performance: 253.4k DMIPS (7.2 DMIPS/MHz/A72core) and 154.53k CoreMark (4.39 CM/MHz/A72core).
Kontron’s VX6124 board is ideal for applications requiring outstanding bandwidth and digital security. This architecture can be used as a vehicle for 40G data plane system experiments (with, for example, the Kontron VX6940 40G/100G switch). Built-in test capabilities also enable effective monitoring, allowing for real time board health status and thus preventing unexpected behaviours.
