TE Connectivity to showcase a variety of SPE connectors and network components at SPS Smart Production Solutions tradeshow
Communicate to the edge with industrial M8 and M12 SPE hybrid connectors and network components from TE Connectivity.
Typical M8 hybrid connector from TE according to IEC 63171-6 standard.TE Connectivity a world leader in sensors and connectors, will present an extensive range of Single Pair Ethernet (SPE) interconnect components for industrial and building automation applications at SPS 2023 in Nuremberg, Germany.
TE will showcase SPE T1 industrial IP20 connectors as well as SPE connectors for IP67 applications, including M8 hybrid jacks for boards, M8 hybrid connectors and SPE interconnect cables according to IEC 63171-6 standard.
There is an increasing demand in the industry for IP67 rated dust and waterproof connectivity solutions suitable for harsh environments. TE now offers a broad IP67 portfolio of rugged SPE connections that are water- and dust-resistant and can resist severe vibrations, shock and heat to reliably transmit data and help minimize downtime.
Ruud Van Den Brink, Product Manager Industrial Communications at TE, said: “Our comprehensive portfolio makes it easier, faster, and more cost-effective to connect field devices such as sensors and actuators, providing virtually an end-to-end connectivity from the edge to the cloud.”
TE launches SPE M12 connector series compliant with new IEC 63171-7 standard.
M8 format makes its way into industry
The IEC 63171-6 standard defines an M8 interface for hybrid transmission of data and power in a single SPE cable. Shielded M8 hybrid connectors and hybrid cables from TE enable data transmission of up to 1 Gbps and power of up to 400 W. With the new M8 connector, IP-based communication from the sensor to the cloud can be implemented using the uniform SPE protocol standard. Applications for this M8 solution include T1S (Terminal 1, Shared) topologies that require shielded cables for distances up to 40 m, data rates up to 1 Gbps, and power supply at the end devices.
Although T1S is designed for relatively short distances, the technology allows for flexible expansion of the network infrastructure by adding network components. TE is introducing active and passive network components such as splitters and switches within its SPE ecosystem. These are optimized in terms of electrical transmission parameters and allow for extended topologies, for example “Multidrop” with up to 8 network subscribers at distances of up to 25 m.
TE has evaluated its components to help ensure compliance with quality characteristics such as latency, throughput, and reliability. The initial application testing results are promising. TE's active network components support the new M8 and M12 connectors.
M12 connector is next milestone
Thanks to its larger dimensions, an M12 connector can carry higher voltages and currents than an M8 connector. This year, TE is introducing M12 hybrid connectors according to IEC 63171-7 standard for applications with high-speed data rates of up to 1 Gbps (600 MHz) and power classes up to 9.6 kW, 16 A and 600 V for high-power devices.
Although previous power-over-data-line (PoDL) connection concepts are limited to 50 W, the hybrid configuration according to IEC 63171-7 standard offers greater flexibility than a point-to-point connection for power distribution in the network. It allows higher power to be distributed to multiple cascaded power devices.
Engineers can use TE's M8 and M12 solutions to help optimize machine-to-machine (M2M) communications with virtually no data loss, decentralize computing power, and transmit data more efficiently and transparently to the edge. The widespread use of M8 and M12 connections in the industry makes it easy and fast to integrate the new SPE connections in the same format.
TE will be exhibiting at SPS 2023 in Hall 10, Booth 340. All information about TE's trade show appearance and highlights can be found at www.te.com/SPS. Learn more about TE's industrial M8 and M12 SPE hybrid connectors and networking components at www.te.com/SPE.
