Protolabs partner with IoT solutions firm Mindsett to create intelligent asset monitoring device, PRISM
Protolabs has announced a partnership with the UK’s fastest growing facilities management company Mindsett on the creation of PRISM™, an intelligent asset monitoring device.
The ground-breaking PRISM™ asset monitoring device harnesses the principles of behavioural science, along with cutting-edge technology, to not only give customers the power to save a minimum of 20% on energy bills; but also to help adjust the user’s mindset and drive long-term behavioural change around energy consumption.
The PRISM™ device is installed directly to a client’s distribution board, and can monitor 30+ channels per device. Information is collected via Wi-Fi, and is fed into machine learning and artificial intelligence models. The interaction between these two models enables the system to provide in-depth asset and energy information in a convenient format, the data of which can be used to change behaviours and save energy.
Initially designed with an overseas supply chain in mind to take advantage of cost efficiencies in China, the Mindsett team weren’t comfortable with the potential environmental impact, and subsequently partnered with Protolabs, based in the UK.
In total, Protolabs were tasked with injection moulding five parts that form the casing of PRISM™: a PCBA inner unit cover, a lower case, a button, a clear lens for an LED to beam through, and a top case.
Gemma Conway, Mindsett Marketing Executive commented, “Most importantly, we weren’t happy with the environmental impact and ESG implications of manufacturing our exciting new product - a device that has ultimately been created to save a huge amount of energy and help our customers become more sustainable - thousands of miles away. The irony of that didn’t sit comfortably with us.”
Robert Musselle, Customer Engineering Manager EMEA at Protolabs commented, “We are thrilled to have partnered with Mindsett in creating PRISM™. This device has immense potential to save customers money and educate them on reducing energy consumption, and we were excited to be part of this initiative. Shifting the manufacturing strategy from overseas to the UK not only provided environmental benefits, but also allowed us to deliver in a timely and cost-effective manner.”
