Crystallization specialist speaks at Formulation & Delivery

Discover how cocrystals can improve a drug’s properties during formulation.

Crystallization and solid-state specialist Technobis Crystallization Systems will attend Formulation and Delivery UK at the Novotel London West hotel on May 5 and 6, 2022. The event presents an occasion for prospective and existing customers across the pharmaceutical industry to meet with Technobis Crystallization Systems and discover solutions like its Crystalline series. Attendees will also have the opportunity to listen to application specialist, Thomas Kendall, speak about how cocrystals can enhance a drugs properties during formulation.

Formulation & Delivery UK focuses on the advancements in drug formulation and the delivery side of pharmaceuticals and biopharma. Factors such as a drug’s dose-efficiency, delivery and activation are crucial to understand as part of the formulation process.

As a speaker at the event, Thomas Kendall, application specialist at Technobis Crystallization Systems, will be explaining how cocrystals can be used to address challenges in formulations and considerations when formulating with cocrystals. With a wealth of industry experience, combined with a PhD in Chemical Engineering, Kendall is well placed to discuss new actives that are entering the market, and the benefits that cocrystals provide just by having a second entity in the crystal. Using them can improve on features such as the taste or the bioavailability of the drug.




“Over the last decade we have seen fast-growing interest and research into cocrystal applications, particularly in the pharmaceutical industry as they can decrease drug development over time,” explained Kendall. “My goal for the conference is to showcase how cocrystals can improve the physiochemical properties of a medicine, like enhanced solubility or stability.”

Kendall will also be running a booth at the event with Sarah Thompson, UK and Ireland sales manager at Technobis Crystallization Systems. There will be more information on cocrystals along with work on larger molecule formulations from some of their customers that they’ve been allowed to publish under the Technobis Crystallization Systems banner.

“We found the event last year to be really interesting, it was insightful to see what developments are going on in the field,” continued Kendall. “We wanted to use this opportunity to engage with our current and potential customers and demonstrate how our products can be used for formulation development.”
