C-V2X is one of the most significant automotive developments, and the creation of the appropriate standards and testing procedures to ensure compliance has become the key to this technology. Vehicle OEMs and Tier1 component suppliers need a standard system to support and guide the development and research of their C-V2X products and function of the overall system. Additionally, testing service companies and authorities need to carry out a large number of validation and certification work in accordance with the government and industry regulatory requirements.

CSA Group, a global leader in testing, inspection and certification, has built a new European headquarters in Plattling in the State of Bavaria, Germany. As part of this project, CSA Group is considerably expanding its testing capabilities for German and European customers. For example, new test labs will enable a wide variety of product tests and certifications even of very large devices weighing up to 20 tonnes. A new regulation requires all smartphones sold in the European Union from March 2022 onwards to support caller location for 112 emergency calls. To ensure this feature, the devices must be compliant with several positioning systems as outlined by the European Commission. Rohde & Schwarz announces an extension to its R&S TS-LBS location based services test system, making it the first test solution available to perform the necessary LBS compliance tests. Certification service provider CETECOM has already started first E112 testing using these test sequences.

The University of Texas at Austin, Rohde & Schwarz and FormFactor have collaborated to characterize a new technology for RF switches that improves battery life performance and supports higher bandwidths and switching speeds.

Rohde & Schwarz has upgraded the R&S CMP200 radio communication tester with a new option for small cell testing. Qualcomm Technologies has validated the solution, and it is now supported by the Qualcomm^® Development Acceleration Resource Toolkit (QDART) for Small Cells. Manufacturers of small cell infrastructure who integrate the Qualcomm^® FSM100 5G RAN Platform in their products can expect that the R&S CMP200 fulfils all necessary hardware development and production test requirements.

The R&S CMP180 radio communication tester has been successfully validated for Broadcom’s Wi-Fi 6E chipsets. OEMs and ODMs of wireless devices are now able to bring their first next generation 6-GHz products to the market.

As of October 1, 2021, China Mobile requires all 5G enabled mobile phones to support voice services over 5G NR (VoNR). Accordingly, the network operator has announced corresponding audio quality test cases. China Mobile relies on the R&S CMX500 radio communication tester from Rohde & Schwarz for 5G VoNR test verification, and the first acceptance tests have already been performed.
